About Me

I am a 6th and final year law student at Victoria University of Wellington! I’ve finished the requirements for my BA majoring in Philosophy already, and have four papers left before my LLB is also complete. After finishing university not only will I throw a big party to which everybody is invited (yes, even you dear reader!) but I will become over 9000 times more betterer at everything else.

My interests are:

  • Law. No, really! I kid you not! To be honest, I did have a momentary (well, three year) lapse of drive, passion and direction. But over the last 12-18 months or so I’ve thought long and hard, settled down, and am headed without doubt into the world of law. In 15 years I will be New Zealand’s best IT lawyer, bar none. Why IT law? It’s the best way to integrate all three of my main interests. Secondly, the pervasiveness of technology will only grow and there are numerous issues that will be raised along the way. Freedom of speech, copyright infringement and DRM, hacking, defamation and EULAs are just some of the things I envisage will not only dominate IT law but encroach upon almost all other areas of law as well as the legal system itself becomes more technology centric.
  • IT. I’ve done (and still do) web design and web hosting since high school. I’m a mac user and have been since forever, although I am a little concerned at the slow but sure progression of Apple Computer Inc from underdog to evil corporate mega stick-wielding giant. I know stuff: from mySQL and PHP, hard drives and memory, to the Unstoppable Force and a post-postmodern comparative analysis of the internet gamers pro versus noob discourse.
  • Music. I am in the loosest sense possible, a concert pianist (I have played piano since age 7, and have played in many, many concerts. Just not strictly “professionally” but so what huh!?!!). I appreciate classical music and also progressive rock (Dream Theater, The Mars Volta, Rush, Yes), jazz, classic rock (Led Zeppelin, Queen, The Who) and the occasional pop song (e.g. Fans by The Kings of Leon). I used to play the violin and clarinet too, and can play Signe by Eric Clapton on the Guitar (but nothing else).

I’m currently unemployed except for being a student and am therefore available to work for anybody who requires my awe-inspiring skills in any of the following:

  • Web design & hosting
  • Law – particularly IT (think licences, policies like those required under s92, e-government compliance, general opinions on IT issues). But bear in mind I’m not a lawyer yet so any legal advice I give is unofficial, without guarantee or warranty and also free.*
  • Piano accompaniments.
  • Hospitality. From fine dining to delicious coffee making.
  • Computer and network repairs and maintenance, especially mac-based.
